Will Johnston

A dynamic and multi-talented performer, Will Johnston brings energy, creativity and precision to every project he’s part of. After an impressive year co-choreographing Geelong Lyric Theatre Society’s School of Rock, Will returns to Geelong Lyric in 2026 as Choreographer for Beauty and the Beast.

Training & Background

Will began his dance journey in 2009 at DanceWorks Geelong, training in tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet and pointe before advancing to Tap High, where he began assistant teaching tap and hip hop in 2014. He later completed a Certificate II in Dance and a Diploma in Music Theatre at Oxygen College, refining his versatility across performance and choreography.

His passion for musical theatre began at age 15 when he performed in his school’s production of Beauty and the Beast at Christian College Geelong — a full-circle moment now that he returns to the same story as choreographer for Geelong Lyric Theatre Society.

From the Stage to the Studio

After taking a break from theatre during the pandemic, Will made a triumphant return in 2023 as part of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert — a production that reignited his love for performing and collaboration. Working alongside director Jules Hart and a creative team he deeply admired, Will rediscovered his passion for storytelling through movement, which has since shaped his growing reputation as one of Geelong’s most exciting emerging choreographers.

  • He’s an accredited sword fighter, which comes in handy for those dramatic stage battles.

  • He paints mini figures in his spare time.

  • He “plays” bass guitar (his words, not ours).

  • And he’s believed to be one of the first male-presenting dancers in Geelong in recent years to perform en pointe — a testament to his dedication, artistry and fearless approach to his craft.
